Senior Facilities Engineer/Advisor

Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, NigeriaFull-timeEngineering

Job Description

Reports To: Managing Director

Industry: Oil & Gas / midstream energy / LNG infrastructure

Position Overview:

Highly accomplished Oil & Gas Facilities Engineering Advisor with more than 20 years of experience delivering upstream, midstream, LNG, gas processing, pipeline, and energy infrastructure projects from concept through commissioning. Extensive expertise in front-end engineering design (FEED), project development, facilities engineering, engineering management, EPC execution, technical due diligence, and strategic project advisory. This role is critical to ensuring engineering integrity, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and asset reliability, acting as a trusted technical authority who reviews, challenges, and advises on facilities engineering decisions to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective production.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. 1. Technical Advisory & Engineering Assurance:

    • Serve as the senior technical advisor on facilities engineering matters, providing independent review, assurance, and guidance across concept selection, front-end engineering design (FEED), and detailed design phases.
    • Evaluate and endorse engineering deliverables — including process flow diagrams, P&IDs, datasheets, and technical specifications — for technical soundness, code compliance, and fit for purpose.
    • Provide advice on facility design, equipment selection, and process configuration (separators, pumps, compressors, pipelines, control systems) to optimize safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Review and respond to technical queries (TQs), design changes, and non-conformances, ensuring resolutions align with company standards and industry codes (e.g., API, ASME).
  2. 2. Project Planning & Commercial Support:

    • Provide technical guidance on cost estimating, engineering scope definition, and risk assessment to support sound project planning and decision-making.
    • Support contract negotiations and vendor/consultant evaluations by furnishing technical and commercial input on scope, specifications, and deliverables.
  3. 3. Field Support & Team Development:

    • Conduct site visits and field assessments as needed to verify design intent, troubleshoot facility issues, and advise on corrective actions.
    • Mentor and coach younger project engineers and technical staff, strengthening in-house engineering capability and promoting best practices.
    • Champion strict adherence to company standards and applicable local, state, and federal safety, health, industry, and environmental regulations.
    • Uphold and model the company's core values — Integrity, Ownership, Urgency, Alignment, and Innovation — in all engineering advice and interactions.
    • Flexibly take on additional advisory or technical assignments as required to support projects and operations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 20 years (post-Bachelor's) of progressive engineering experience in the oil and gas sector, with substantial time spent in facilities engineering, design, or technical advisory roles.
  • Demonstrated track record providing senior-level technical guidance across the full facilities project lifecycle — concept, design, estimating, and field execution.
  • Strong knowledge of oil and gas production processes, equipment (separators, pumps, compressors, pipelines, control systems), and facility design principles.
  • Sound understanding of cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and contracting processes sufficient to advise project teams effectively.
  • Very high proficiency in developing and reviewing engineering design, P&IDs, data sheets, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software tools, including process simulation, hydraulic analysis, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
  • Thorough familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., API, ASME, ISO, NFPA, IEC).
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound engineering judgment, and influence outcomes with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to field staff, contractors, and senior management.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and interpersonal skills; able to build consensus and operate effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); experience with process simulation and project management tools preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Core competencies: Facilities Engineering; LNG & Gas Processing Facilities; FEED Development; EPC Project Management; Upstream Production Facilities; Pipeline & Terminal Engineering; Process Design & Optimization; Project Development; Capital Cost Estimation; Engineering Assurance; Risk Assessment (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL); Process Safety Management; Owner's Engineering Services; Construction Management; Commissioning & Start-up; Operations Readiness; Asset Integrity Management; Engineering Standards Compliance; Contract Strategy; Value Engineering; Technical Advisory; Team Leadership; Stakeholder Management.
