Westflux Successfully Signs GMOU with Akarai-Aboh Community Leaders
Last week marked a significant milestone for Westflux as our team successfully concluded and signed off the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) with the leadership of the Akarai-Aboh community.
In a landmark ceremony held at Akarai-Aboh, Westflux Integrated Services Ltd formally signed the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) with the paramount leadership of the Akarai-Aboh community. This agreement formalises the relationship between Westflux and the host community for the duration of the Delta LNG Project, covering a broad range of social, economic, and environmental commitments.
The Significance of a GMOU
A Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU) is a comprehensive community relations framework widely adopted in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. Unlike traditional one-off community development agreements, a GMOU establishes a long-term, structured partnership between an operator and the host community, with clearly defined obligations, governance structures, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
For Westflux, signing this GMOU represents our deepest commitment yet to embedding the Akarai-Aboh community as an integral stakeholder in the Delta LNG Project — not merely a host.
Key Commitments Under the Agreement
- Prioritisation of local content: at least 60% of unskilled and semi-skilled labour to be sourced from the community
- Annual community development fund contributions, starting at project commencement
- Scholarships and vocational training programmes for youth in Akarai-Aboh
- Environmental monitoring committee with community representation
- Regular town hall meetings and transparent reporting on project progress
- Joint grievance and conflict resolution committee
“This is not just a document — it is a promise. Westflux is here to grow with you, not over you. We believe that the success of the Delta LNG Project is inseparable from the prosperity of Akarai-Aboh.”
— Westflux Leadership
Community Reception
The signing ceremony was attended by the Paramount Ruler and Council of Chiefs, youth leaders, women's cooperative representatives, and community development committee members. The occasion was marked by cultural performances, prayers, and expressions of goodwill from both sides. The community leadership commended Westflux for its transparent and inclusive approach to project development.
Westflux views this GMOU as the foundation of a generation-long relationship with Akarai-Aboh — one built on mutual respect, shared prosperity, and sustainable development.
